How to send email in node js - A guide to sending email in node js

Node.js makes it easy to send email. There are a variety of email libraries available for Node, but we'll be using the Nodemailer library.

Install Nodemailer

First, we need to install the Nodemailer library. We can do this with NPM:

npm install nodemailer

Create a Transporter

Next, we need to create a Nodemailer transporter. A transporter is basically an object that tells Nodemailer how to send emails. We need to specify the host, port, and secure (SSL) settings for our email provider. We'll also need to specify the email account that we'll be using to send emails.

For this example, we'll be using Gmail. However, you can use any email provider that you want.

var nodemailer = require('nodemailer');

var transporter = nodemailer.createTransport({
  host: 'smtp.gmail.com',
  port: 465,
  secure: true,
  auth: {
    user: '[email protected]',
    pass: 'yourpassword'
  }
});

Replace [email protected] with your actual email address and yourpassword with your actual password.

Send an Email

Now that we have a transporter, we can use it to send an email. We'll need to specify the recipient, subject, and text for the email. We can also specify HTML for the email body.

var mailOptions = {
  from: '[email protected]',
  to: '[email protected]',
  subject: 'Sending Email using Node.js',
  text: 'That was easy!'
};

transporter.sendMail(mailOptions, function(error, info){
  if (error) {
    console.log(error);
  } else {
    console.log('Email sent: ' + info.response);
  }
});

Replace [email protected] with the actual email address of your friend.

That's all there is to it! You can now send emails from your Node.js application.
